Non Life-threatening Injuries, Wound Care and Documentation

Presentation on common, non life-threatening injuries using the DCAP-BTLS mnemonic. Presentation included how to thoroughly assess an injury in the Secondary Assessment, determining the appropriate bandaging materials, wound cleaning, infection prevention, referral to definitive care, and documentation considerations for the "treat and release" patient. Discussion was followed by hands-on practice for irrigating wounds using mannequins. Irrigation tools included bottles of sterile water, 60cc syringes and irrigation splashcaps, as well as appropriate PPE.
