Geriatric Trauma

Dr. Doucette presented information on the geriatric patient. He discussed the difference between athletic capability vs the physiological repsonse to injury. He presented considerations of comorbid conditons; the high risk of anticoagulant medications, vitals and assessment abnormalities; decreased response to pain in this patient population and spinal motion restriction protocols. Also discussed the pre-hospital management of these patients and in-hospital treatment including reversal of anticoagulant Rx for geriatric truama patients. Dr. Doucette is the new Medical Director for Arapahoe Basin Ski Patrol as an agency. He outlined some of his expectations for the winter season to come.
